Divisions of Play offered at University Little League
ULL is organized into eight divisions of play. We believe that children enjoy the game most when they play with kids of similar skills and ability. Accordingly, starting with Minor A, the divisions are not strictly divided by age and players may be placed in a division that is above or below their age group.
Pee Wee (4-6 Year Olds): This is the first level of baseball offered at ULL. The rules and regulations recognize that it is a developmental division designed to foster success. After evaluations, players will be drafted on teams so that competitiveness is the first priority. When possible, teammate and coach requests will be considered but not at the expense of keeping talent level balanced. Players must be 4 prior to the start of the season.
Coach Pitch (7 & 8 Year Olds): CP is an instructional division focused on player development and basic fundamentals such as throwing, catching and hitting. Players are required to tryout and teams are drafted, for this reason coach/teammate requests cannot be considered.
Minor A (9 & 10 Year Olds): This is the first kid pitch league offered at ULL and will be comprised primarily of 9 year olds moving up from coach pitch and some 10 year olds that are just starting to play baseball or need further development. A strong emphasis is placed on developing an understanding of the game and developing good baseball habits. After tryouts, players will be placed accordingly.
Minor AA (9 & 10 Year Olds): The division is designed for kids that have played at least one year of kid pitch. The division emphasizes effort, teamwork, fundamental play and player development. The division will comprised primarily of 10 year olds. After tryouts, players will be placed accordingly.
Minor AAA (10 & 11 Year Olds): This division will be comprised primarily of 11 year olds. After tryouts, players will be placed accordingly. It's possible the Minor AA & AAA divisions will be combined.
Major (11 & 12 Year Olds): Major is a highly competitive division comprised primarily of 12 year olds with a few 11 year olds that are prepared for this level of play. Little League rules require a maximum of eight 12-year olds per team, with the remaining players to be league age 11.
Intermediate 50/70 (12 & 13 Year Olds): This division is designed to introduce players to more traditional baseball rules (loose bases, pick-offs, etc) and is played at larger dimensions than Little League (70' basepaths rather than 60' and 50' mound rather than 46'). Most 13 year olds will play in this division along with any 12 year olds that wish to move into a more traditional baseball experience. Games will be played at ULL (we have retrofitted MLB field to the correct dimensions) and other local Little Leagues. Tryouts will be held in this division.
Junior (14 Year Olds): Junior introduces players to "big field" dimensions and games are played at local high schools. The division is primarily for 14 year olds with some 13 year olds. Tryouts will be held in this division.
Senior (15 & 16 Year Olds): We have partnered with Arlington Southwest to offer Senior ball to 15 & 16 year olds that aren't playing high school baseball. Players should sign up through www.aswll.com and indicate in the commenets section that you are a ULL player. All games will be played at MLK fields in Arlington.
